Freedom in Christ

In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal Holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

We are thankful to God for any freedom we enjoy in a nation. But above all we need to experience the freedom in Christ.

From the time immemorial humankind was in search of freedom from sin and death, all his efforts failed, and he continued his search for real freedom. Freedom is not freedom to do anything we like; rather real freedom is discovering our eternal possibilities with God. Bible says real freedom is in Christ,

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. “The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:34-36)

During the earthly ministry of Jesus, he helped people to experience the real freedom in their life.

Nicodemus was a religious leader with strong believe in ritualistic religion, Jesus encouraged him to experience the freedom of new birth, through the power of the spirit. (Jh.3:3)

Zacchaeus the Tax Collector was a man who loved money more than men. He was a slave to money. Jesus stayed with him and gave him a new vision of people above money.

Paul was a fanatic Pharisee with an intention to destroy Christianity, Jesus encountered him on his way to Damascus, and he became the disciple of Jesus Christ. By experiencing the freedom in Christ St.Paul said, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come (Rom 5:17)

Faith in Christ is a new experience, and it separates us from our old nature. Therefore, Freedom in Christ is a new way of life. This freedom in Christ will give us a new outlook about our personal life as well as social life. As we celebrate our Independence Day let us experience the real freedom offered by our Lord Jesus Christ.
